Orchest-Vereeniging with intense Rachmaninoff
"This was different in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, which was convincingly performed. With Brazilian Eliane Rodrigues as the soloist, the power and intensity was paired with eloquence and a beautiful phrasing, along with an orchestra, that under the direction of Vakoulsky, offered an excellent response. The drama of the moderato was beautifully expressed. The flute solo was strikingly poetic in adagio. The witty repartee between the first chair violinists and the soloist were also charming. Some of the tension was lost in the last movement, but the poignant ending was majestic."
