Fort Worth Star Telegram USA - Van Cliburn Competition 1977

The most positive impression was made by Eliane Rodrigues of Brazil, an 18-year-old who played with the wisdom and insight of a 50-year-old. She is fully formed artist, producing the biggest sound I've heard from a female pianist since the late Gina Bachauer- full, rich and effortless. And what she does with this sound has to be heard to be believed. I think the girl is brushed with genius. How else do you explain definitve performances of Chopin and Beethoven that performers three times her age would kill to achieve.

Brahms...was remarkable, and again raised the question of how an 18-year-old can be so musically perceptive. This youngster is really one of the wonders of the Competition, she could begin a career tomorrow.
